An IP65 certified all in one PC means that it has been designed to be waterproof and dustproof to facilitate cleaning. An IP65 fanless PC refers to a PC that has been certified to be waterproof and dustproof, and also fanless – it uses a passive cooling system rather than a mechanical fan. IP65 standards are important for all in one computers used in medical or industrial environments; it means that the electrical components within the computer are protected from water, dust or solid objects that have otherwise have the potential to damage the computer. IP65 certification is achieved through the design of the computer and its case or enclosure.

IP65 Certification and Benefits
An IP code is a designation established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and consists of the letters “IP” followed by two digits and an optional letter. This code specifies the degrees of protection provided against the introduction of dust, solid objects and water in electrical enclosures (hardware). For IP65, the first digit “6” means that the enclosure is dust tight, and offers complete protection against dust. The second digit “5” indicates the enclosure is protected against water being sprayed by a water jet or nozzle at a rate of 12.5 liters per minute from a distance of 3 meters.

Achieving this designation for computers yields many benefits for users. The PC can be used in harsh environments with humid, wet or dusty conditions, such as outdoors at construction sites or industrial facilities. An IP65-certified PC is also ideal for medical facilities where cleaning of the computer exterior would be necessary in order to maintain a hygienic environment. The computer’s bezel can be sprayed with water or liquid cleaning products without damaging the electronics inside.

An IP65 fanless PC has the additional benefit of reduced noise and enhanced reliability. IP65 fanless PCs are used in medical environments such as operating rooms to reduce circulation of dust and germs, and also to eliminate background noise so the surgical team can focus more effectively on the job at hand. IP65 fanless PCs are also ideal for some manufacturing facilities that must maintain sterile or dust-free conditions such as a clean room in a semiconductor factory.
