Super Space Saver
A chaotic jumble of dust-caked computer towers spread itself out on the floor in every direction. Unwitting tellers repeatedly bumped and bruised the machines. There seemed to be no place to walk without colliding with one. Mike Haske knew this frustrating clutter had to be eliminated very quickly. Mike is V.P. of information systems for Bank Annapolis, a community bank centered in Annapolis, Maryland. With his objective firmly in mind, he explored a wide range of space-saving solutions. Out of all the available options, the Cybernet ZPC proved the best candidate for the job.
Encouraged by the possibilities, Mike purchased a ZPC-GX31 for in-house testing. Undergoing a thorough evaluation process that lasted 3 months, the computer zoomed through the tests with flying colors. Mike’s team eagerly ordered a large fleet of ZPC-GX31 units. Floor clutter was about to become ancient history.
To exploit the ZPC’s abundant power, the Systems Group established a physical configuration ideally suited to their busy banking environment. Running on server-provided banking software, the computers channel their data into high-resolution, 15” monitors. Each ZPC is linked to a receipt printer through a serial connection. Since the bank’s printers don’t accept USB connections, a computer equipped with serial ports was mandatory. Many of the newer computers simply don’t have these ports. Cybernet also offered Bank Annapolis an important safeguard. Because the bank strives to prevent tellers from bringing foreign files into the institution’s software system, Mike ordered the ZPC units without CD ROM or floppy drives. As he discovered, other manufacturers don’t offer this option. The only other alternative available to the Systems team was removing the drives on their own. But taking this step would have left a very unattractive hole in each computer.
One other Cybernet option the Bank Annapolis team greatly appreciates is choice of operating system. The image Mike requested for the ZPC was Windows XP. The majority of other PC manufacturers either don’t offer this service or require much larger orders before installing an image to accommodate a client. The ready availability of XP was a welcome convenience.
The entire Bank Annapolis team has been more than delighted with the ZPC. Thanks to the unit’s space-saving compactness, tellers are free to move without fear of colliding with a bulky tower. The IT group is particularly enthusiastic about both the computer’s performance power and the ease of deployment.
Mike proudly points out that some of the bank’s ZPC computers are 5 years old and still functioning flawlessly. This is even more impressive when one considers that the units are on 24/7. The computers never shut down since the bank performs computer maintenance during non-business hours. Despite this intense usage, the power supplies are holding up like champions. Much wear and tear has been eliminated, as well. Unlike the floor-bound tower computers, the Cybernet units are not subject to dust caking or damaging bumps from janitorial vacuums and unwitting tellers.
Conveniently compact and flawlessly powerful, the Cybernet ZPC has met all of the Bank Annapolis team’s expectations. Clearly, the computer has helped to transform the bank into a smooth-running community institution. It’s certainly no surprise that Mike intends to add more of Cybernet’s super space savers to the bank’s fleet over the coming years.
