Challenge
With multiple hospitals and surgery centers, Aspirus Health needed a compact computer solution that could work across a variety of roles, including anesthesia machines, VESA-mount arms, and PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems). In the past, Aspirus had relied on various thin-client PCs. However, these consumer-grade solutions were unreliable and difficult to mount where they were needed, often falling off machines and getting damaged in the process. Additionally, the Joint Commission, a medical accreditation organization, rejected consumer-grade electronics, deeming them unreliable for medical use. This meant that Aspirus Health needed a computer that was not only compact and supported multiple mounting solutions, but also had medical-grade certifications.
Solution
Searching for a solution, Aspirus’s team soon discovered Cybernet’s range of medical computers, specifically the CyberMed S24. In fact, the team was shocked by how well the computer met all their needs. As a medical panel PC, the CyberMed S24 offered a narrow profile and was easier to integrate into a machine or mounting arm than a typical desktop computer solution. The 24” screen size also ensured compatibility with their suite of healthcare software, such as Epic’s EHR platform and Capsule charting system. Lastly, Aspirus was highly appreciative of the fact that the CyberMed S24 was designed and manufactured specifically for healthcare, boasting features such as ingress protection on its front bezel to prevent dust or water damage and IEC 60601-1 certification. After a short demo, Aspirus happily chose the CyberMed S24 as its standard solution across multiple facilities.
Results
Since 2016, Aspirus Health’s team has had nothing but positive things to say about the CyberMed S24, praising its reliability, ease of use, and flexibility across multiple roles. At several hospitals and outpatient facilities in Wausau, St. Luke’s, and Chippewa Falls, the CyberMed S24 is the preferred computer solution to ensure consistent workflows across multiple care centers. Aside from a few user-caused issues, the computers have performed without major breakdowns or maintenance problems, despite the high demands of working in healthcare. Aspirus’s team has made it clear they have no plans to drop Cybernet from their tech stack and are currently planning to upgrade to the more modern CyberMed G Series for their next-generation technology.
This all-in-one platform has been a godsend!
