University of Illinois Chicago Modernizes with Cybernet Computers

The University of Illinois Hospital is a licensed tertiary-care hospital that offers treatments for serious medical conditions, including cancer, sickle cell anemia, epilepsy, and general surgery.

University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Hospital has turned to Cybernet Manufacturing for not just one solution, but multiple medical computers for nearly a decade. The first collaboration came in 2016, when the UIC sought to consolidate its anesthesia tools onto a single cart. Previously, the anesthesia carts had used two separate devices, the machine itself and the laptop that controlled it, on two separate carts. Obviously, this hindered portability and took up far too much space. During a physician-led “tech fair” in which UIC’s team tested several different solutions, Cybernet’s solution was selected above all others.

Later in 2020, UIC made the switch from Cerner to Epic for its EHR solution. Epic recommends a 24” screen size for its platform, prompting UIC to go through another round of testing and demos. Once again, physicians selected the Cybernet model, favoring a familiar and proven system they knew they could rely on.

In both 2016 and 2020, Cybernet’s computers provided a lightweight and agile solution that was also compatible with the healthcare tools UIC relied upon. These devices allowed UIC to consolidate its anesthesia machines and control interfaces onto a single cart, drastically reducing their footprint and making it easier to fit them into the surgery room. These successes soon saw UIC Hospital adopt other Cybernet models for smaller, more specialized roles throughout its operations. For example, UIC Hospital began using the CyberMed M12, a 12” fanless panel PC, in its pharmacy clean rooms, blood bank, and surgical decontamination areas.

Nearly a decade of trusted service speaks for itself. UIC Hospital continues to rely on Cybernet computers throughout its facility, from the surgery room to bedside monitoring. In 2025, UIC Hospital is upgrading to the new CyberMed G24 to take advantage of the latest digital healthcare tools and adapt to the end of support for Windows 10. UIC Hospital has also appreciated the quick response from Cybernet in the rare moments when repairs or technical support have been needed.
