VillageCare and Cybernet:
New All-in-One PCs for a New Rehabilitation Center
The VillageCare Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Manhattan turned to Cybernet when it came time to open their new center. Accustomed to all-in-one PCs with touch screens, their nurses had high expectations for reliability of their new units. Cybernet’s iOne-GX31s and iOne-MP171s delivered on those expectations. The ease of deployment and maintenance also is a plus for VillageCare’s Managing Director of IT. He was able to deploy all the units on schedule, and the units have been problem-free since the new center opened.
VillageCare is a community-based, not-for-profit health care organization in New York serving the elderly and persons living with HIV/AIDS. One of the their newest facilities is the 105-bed VillageCare Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Manhattan, where most patients receive rehabilitation and recovery care to return home, as opposed to a traditional end-point usually associated with traditional nursing home care. Services and resources provided at the center include physical medicine and orthopedics, physical and occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, full-time medical staff and general and specialized rehabilitation services.
The Business Challenge
Managing Director of IT Michael Della Villa arrived at VillageCare IT department just as construction of the new Center was nearing completion. VillageCare wanted to have all new computer equipment in the new facility. VillageCare Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, the first newly construction skilled nursing facility for adults built in Manhattan in the last half century, replaced an aging facility that had been operated by VillageCare since the 1970s. The old nursing home facility had already been using all-in-one PCs with touch screens, so that was also the plan for the new facility. Michael’s predecessor had already ordered Cybernet iOne-GX31s for the nurses and CNAs (certified nursing assistants) to use in the new facility. In addition, a few Cybernet iOne-MP171 medical computers with antimicrobial coating had been ordered for the physical therapy areas and the clinician room. It was up to Michael and his staff to deploy the new Cybernet units.
The Cybernet Solution
The nurses and CNAs primarily use the all-in-one PCs to enter information into patient records using their 6N Systems EMR software; the units are located at nursing stations throughout the facility. Michael needed to load the 6NSystems software onto the new iOne-GX31 and iOne-MP171 units, along with other key software. He and his staff had to deploy all of the PCs in the new facility including the Cybernet units all at once – nearly 80 units in a short amount of time. They had to make sure that the new facility’s IT operations would be up and running on schedule. They used an imaging/ghosting process to speed things along. All the PCs were deployed on time.
The nurses and CNAs were already familiar with touch screen all-in-one PCs at the older facility, so there was no learning curve for them, but they did expect high levels of reliability. Cybernet’s iOne-GX31s and iOne-MP171s delivered. Not only did the units meet the requirements for saving space, performance, and features, but the reliability has been outstanding. Michael has had no issues to deal with regarding the Cybernet units; they were very easy to deploy and are trouble-free to maintain.
"Cybernet’s all-in-one PCs were the perfect choice for our new, state-of-the-art VillageCare Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Deployment was a breeze, and the reliability surpassed our expectations."
